Overview

Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. The Senior Human Resources (HR) Generalist performs HR responsibilities at the subject matter expert level, providing expertise and direct support to assigned business units/clients in areas such as employee relations consultation/conflict resolution, policy interpretation and application, management consultation, talent acquisition, workforce data analysis, and performance appraisal training. The role requires a strong understanding of benefit and compensation programs and processes, and a high degree of emotional intelligence and decision-making skills to work with all levels of management and staff. The Senior HR Generalist must be able to shift rapidly between functional areas to anticipate HR-related needs, complete assignments, and meet deadlines. This position may serve as a role model within the HR department, providing training and guidance to other HR team members as appropriate.

Responsibilities

Participates in employee relations activities including conflict resolution, counseling managers and staff of varying complexity, and conducting interviews (follow-up, exit, focus groups). Coaches, trains, and guides client managers and staff on employee relations, policy interpretation, procedures, benefits, compensation, job description development, payroll, turnover, employee satisfaction, performance management, conflict resolution, and legal issues (e.g., FMLA, ADA, sexual harassment).

Act as a role model and mentor peers; recommend opportunities to improve department turnover/retention/employee engagement.

Collaborate with HR colleagues across the system on shared initiatives.

Consult with management to assess performance improvement needs and develop action plans.

Service/Operational Expectations

Support the development and execution of HR strategies with leadership to meet business objectives (e.g., improving retention and employee satisfaction).

Attend client department meetings to provide HR updates and gather operational changes; identify opportunities and develop HR interventions to achieve business goals.

Assist in workforce planning, monitor turnover and time-to-fill trends, and partner with recruitment to remove barriers to filling positions; may participate directly in recruitment.

Deliver training for new employee orientation, management education, and supervisor skills development across various formats.

Quality/Safety and Data

Interpret HR policies and procedures; advise on policy, procedure, and process improvements; may develop policies and educate on new policies.

Conduct investigations related to EEOC charges, business practice complaints, and unemployment claims; prepare summary reports to support business decisions.

Gather and interpret data; perform workforce data analysis, prepare reports, and recommend actions to improve HR metrics.

Compensation and Finance

Explain compensation policy and recommendations to management; participate in compensation-related activities such as job description development and analysis, and advise on crucial compensation conversations.

Identify business cases that support modified compensation recommendations and collaborate with compensation colleagues on solutions.

Use resources efficiently and manage time effectively while supporting colleagues as needed.

Growth and Innovation

Support change management initiatives in collaboration with Organizational Development.

Identify personal development needs, engage in career discussions with management, and maintain ongoing development plans.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Work Experience

Four years of Human Resources experience with at least three years at a higher level directly related to employee/labor relations, organizational consulting, recruitment, compensation, and/or benefits administration

Licenses and Certifications

Licenses and Certifications - Required: N/A

Licenses and Certifications - Preferred:

PHR - Professional in Human Resources (HRCI) OR

SPHR - Senior Professional in Human Resources (SHRM) OR

SHRM-CP - Certified Professional in HR OR

SHRM-SCP - Senior Certified Professional in HR

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to safely perform the job with ongoing skills and performance assessments

Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) for essential functions and safety considerations

Strong customer service orientation and positive communication with patients, physicians, and staff

Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills across the healthcare team

Ability to influence and collaborate with client groups to achieve positive outcomes

MS Office proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Strong organization, detail orientation, and ability to adapt to changing responsibilities

Sound judgment and critical thinking; capability to apply change management practices

Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data and make sound recommendations

Work Environment and Supplemental

Work attire: Business professional

On-call and travel requirements vary by department; may be required within the Houston Metropolitan area or outside
