$3,768 per month | SR13 | BU03

LOCATIONS:

This is a regional position located in the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. HHSC Kaua’i Region consists of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both critical access hospitals; The Kaua’i Region Clinics; and its affiliates.

The PFS department manages and coordinates patient billing, follow-up, cash posting, insurance payment reconciliation, and collection services; and manages all healthcare insurance revenue recovery activities.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

We are seeking a passionate individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, dedicated to providing exceptional service to join us as one of our Patient Account Representative II (Regional). As the Patient Account Representative II (Regional), you will be responsible for collecting cash by working with all payors to ensure timely recovery of outstanding accounts receivables and processing of claims to ensure maximum reimbursement is received for services provided. Duties include determining credit status, arranging for payments, processing accounts for collection agencies in accordance with established policies, and other duties as assigned. This position involves completing a significant amount of work within a constrained time-frame. Work schedule may include working weekends, holidays, and/or evenings and may require travel to and from different facilities within the region as needed. The position reports to the Regional Revenue Cycle Officer, position no. 109768, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify, you must meet

all

of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university may substitute for all of the General Experience required.

License:

Possession of a current, valid State of Hawai’i type# 3 driver’s license preferred.

Certifications:

None required.

General Experience:

Two (2) years of typing, stenographic, clerical work, cashiering, data input, customer service skills or any combination of these experiences which demonstrate knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, standard office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, observe differences in copy and proofread words and numbers quickly and accurately, and operate various kinds of office equipment; and ability to deal effectively with others in eliciting information and providing service.

Specialized Experience:

One (1) year of work experience performing medical billing and collections in a hospital, long-term care facility, outpatient clinic, or clinic setting; interviewing patients and/or responsible persons to secure financial information, arranging for method of payment and extension of credit, and determining financial status; reviewing accounts for delinquent payments and contacting payers to seek payment.

Make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; file materials numerically and alphabetically; follow oral and written instructions; communicate positively and effectively with staff, patients, and patient families; work harmoniously with others; understand, explain, and apply policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertinent to the admission of patients to an acute, skilled nursing, or outpatient hospital or outpatient procedure; keep matters confidential; interview others to obtain pertinent admissions information; ability to speak and write English.

*NOTE: The compensation for paid holidays, vacation time, and sick leave is based on a full-time equivalent (FTE) status for 8-hour workdays. If an employee’s FTE status is less than 1.0, the accrual of these benefits will be adjusted accordingly.
