Position Overview Grade(s): 6th – 8th The RTI Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the instructional program, with specific responsibility for assessing at-risk students for Response to Intervention (RTI) services, implementing RTI program strategies, monitoring and reporting student performance, and providing information to appropriate school internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities
Collaborates with instructional staff, School Leadership Team, and parents to evaluate needs for and progress of RTI intervention strategies. Communicates progress and follow-up needs to the Director of Student Support Services, parents, and teachers via emails, phone calls, in-person meetings, etc. Plan and deliver instruction while maintaining and improving instructional techniques and classroom management, including assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities. Advocate for students and believe specialized instruction and related services increase academic achievement. Assist teachers in preparing materials and strategies for each group to ensure use of sound teaching practices with fidelity. Support classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and integrating RTI intervention strategies. Monitor Reading and Math instruction to ensure the use of evidence-based, fidelity-implemented practices. Engage the learning community in identifying and addressing professional learning needs related to RTI. Collaborate with parents in the RTI process to ensure effective communication at every tier. Ensure teachers and teams adhere to legal requirements to protect the legal integrity of the system and students. Facilitate and support teachers in using classroom-based interventions for individual children and groups to enhance social/emotional and cognitive skills. Maintain records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines and reporting requirements. Meet with teachers to interpret data, determine intervention efficacy, and plan next steps. Model and assist teachers in using data to place students in intervention groups and define instructional focuses. Oversee data collection and progress monitoring at Tier II and Tier III to evaluate and recommend interventions. Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information necessary to perform functions. Perform other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit. Plan and deliver ongoing staff development for teachers and paraprofessionals. Lead RTI and SPED Team meetings with key stakeholders to facilitate Tier II and Tier III interventions. Provide training and support on the effective use of school-based intervention teams to implement RTI and support students. Assist students individually or in small groups to practice or reinforce intervention strategies. Provide behavioral support and documentation to effectively use PBIS and related tools. Support teachers in measuring and documenting student progress and monitor the RTI model to increase achievement. Analyze data related to individual students, groups, and classrooms to positively impact achievement and behavior. Collaborate with SPED Data Teams to facilitate eligibility for special education when needed. Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward standards and analyze data. Offer academic, emotional, and physical support while maintaining high expectations. Provide supervision of students during class, breaks, meals, and transitions to ensure safety. Create an inclusive and safe environment where students are empowered to become self-guided learners. Assist with work inside and outside the classroom, including coordination of Enrichment classes, student events, and mentoring partnerships. Attend and participate in events outside regular hours as needed (e.g., family nights, performances, field trips, conferences, etc.). Adapt and implement a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and assess student progress. Teach one or more classes or small groups as applicable and support students with tutoring and intervention. Meet with a coach and school leadership regularly for feedback on lessons and instruction. Address classroom issues in a solution-focused manner and lead advisory/homeroom. Supervise students during transitions, meals, and after-school activities. Maintain strong communication with parents and be available for events involving families. Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching. Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and student achievement. Partner with grade-level teams to develop academic goals and instructional strategies. Participate in collaborative curriculum development and school-wide events with School Leadership and the Culture Team. Provide consistent rewards and consequences for student behavior. Other Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required. Valid NYS Certification in Special Education preferred within the grade span of the role. Academic expertise in Special Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields preferred. Minimum three (3) years of experience as a school educator, preferably in charter/public schools. Knowledge of national, state, and local Special Education statutes and law. Experience in urban schools preferred but not required. Ability to work a flexible schedule outside regular hours. Aptitude to work in an inclusive environment that honors diversity.
