Overview

Police Lieutenant Position Summary: Plans, organizes, oversees, and coordinates the daily activities of a designated operational entity of the Police Department. Manages supervisory personnel and police officers who provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus, ensuring consistent and equitable enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and university regulations. Reviews and approves reports on incident and crime investigations. See the Position Description for additional information.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, oversee, and coordinate daily operations of a designated police entity. Manage supervisory personnel and sworn officers. Ensure security of persons, property, and equipment across campus. Enforce applicable laws and university regulations consistently and equitably. Review and approve incident and crime investigation reports.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license is a requirement for this job. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Must maintain certification status.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy; at least 3 years of supervisory experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: State of New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officer, or eligibility for Certification by waiver. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Major Event Planning and Logistic Experience Tactical and /or Critical Incident Management Experience Implementation of Training or Experience in Training
