Chemical Terrorism Threat Preparedness Coordinator
This position serves as the Chemical Terrorism (CT) Threat Preparedness Coordinator and CT Section Supervisor. Responsibilities include maintaining and supervising daily laboratory and administrative operations, maintaining quality assurance per state and federal regulations, coordinating supply and instrument needs, and overseeing the CT objectives of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness grant with CDC. This position also reviews statistical control and test data to ensure accuracy, provides technical expertise to staff, and serves as liaison to internal and external partners regarding CT specimen collection, testing, and reporting. Also performs bench work. Candidates must have hands-on experience in at least one of the following technologies: Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Inductively Coupled Plasma, Mass Spectrometry. Responsibilities: Supervise, schedule and evaluate the work of Laboratory Scientists and support personnel. Direct the planning, administration and budgeting of resources and services of the unit. Plan, direct and coordinate a laboratory unit. Maintain quality assurance per state and federal regulations, coordinating supply and instrument needs, and overseeing the completion of Public Health Emergency Preparedness grant requirements. Make decisions involving types of tests, methods and procedures of analyses and interpretation of results. Direct and conduct internal quality control programs for the section for compliance with regulations. Review statistical control and test data to ensure accuracy, provide technical expertise to staff, and serve as liaison to internal and external partners regarding CT specimen collection, testing, and reporting. Perform daily analytical testing using Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Inductively Coupled Plasma, and Mass Spectrometry. Perform troubleshooting to identify and solve technical problems with instruments and methods. Interview and recommend applicants for appointment and perform other supervisory tasks such as training new employees, evaluating performance and applying corrective and disciplinary action when necessary. Interpret and provide information for laboratory analysis reports. Prepare management reports. Minimum Qualifications: Training:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a biological, microbiological, chemical, or environmental science, medical technology, molecular biology, forensic sciences, or related field. AND Experience:
Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid laboratory experience that is clinical or environmental in nature that produces a test result. OR Substitution:
Graduate coursework in one of the areas as described above from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every fifteen (15) semester hours of education. Special Requirement:
For positions which involve processing and analysis of human specimens and/or the generation or interpretation of laboratory results that may be used in the diagnosis or treatment of a disease or condition in humans, the incumbent must have or be eligible for licensure as a WV Clinical Laboratory Practitioner as required by 64 C.S.R.§57.
