Posted Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 4:00 PM Job Purpose The Part Time Maker Space Technician supports the daily operation, maintenance, and safety of the maker space environment by providing technical assistance , overseeing equipment usage, and facilitating access to tools and resource s . This role ensures users can safely and eff ectively engage in hand s -on learning, prototyping, and creative exploration, while maintaining a well-organized and functional workspace. Additionally, the Maker Space Technician will work closely with the Maker Space Manager and other Lili ʻ uokalani Center (LC) and Lili ʻ uokalani Trust (LT) teammates including but not limited to the IT department, facilities, operations, and ʻ Olino Pathways teams to ensure high quality creation and productions as well as overall maintenance of our state-of-the-art spaces. In support of the Maker Space Manager o versee daily operation of the maker Space, ensuring all tools and equipment are functional, clean, and safely acces s ible Maintains inventory and facilitates preventative maintenance on all equipment including b u t not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC machines, soldering stations, paint hood, and sewing machines. Monitor and maintain inventory of tools , consumables (filament, materials, components, etc ), and safety supplies. Oversee training and support on proper and safe use of tools and equipment, providing on e-on-one and group demonstrations as needed. Support Maker Space Manager, program leaders, and teachers by assisting with project planning, setup, and execution of maker-related activities integrated into the curriculum. Supervise maker space use, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and respectful sharing of space and materials. Implement and enforce safety procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE), tool-specific rules, and emergency protocols. Prepares a variety of documents and reports (e.g. maintenance, budget, daily activity, daily program content, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. Other duties: Contribute to the success of the team by being flexible, collaborative, and proactive in learning new skills. Provide transportation support for staff, youth, and families as needed for official business. Participate in professional development, training, and team-building initiatives. Support broader Trust and LC efforts by contributing to cross-functional projects and new initiatives. Be available for flexible scheduling to support programming, events and strategic needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned by Maker Space Manager or Director of Facilities Qualifications BA in related field preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent experience required. At least three years of experience in youth work, maker space, lab , workshop, or educational tech setting. Proficiency with maker space equipment and tools in cluding but not limited to 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, vinyl cutters, soldering tools, handtools , and power tools. Familiarity with design and modeling software such as CAD, Vectorworks , Sketchup , and Adobe Illustrator. Basic electronic knowledge including circuits , breadboarding, and soldering. Strong communication and interpersonal skills especially when working with youth and educators. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, project-based learning environment. Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract. TB clearance Collaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy. Travel Requirements: In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka ` imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization.
