Job Overview:
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified
Optometrist (Refractive)
to provide specialized eye care for patients undergoing vision correction procedures at
Naval Hospital Jacksonville . This role involves conducting comprehensive eye exams, co-managing refractive surgeries (like LASIK, PRK, SMILE, and ICL), and ensuring high-quality care before and after surgery. The optometrist will also act as a clinical advisor and educator, participate in research, and collaborate with the healthcare team to improve patient outcomes in the ophthalmology department. General Duties:
Provide services within scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF Director. Perform duties aligned with contract and outlined responsibilities. Specific Duties:
Perform pre-op evaluations and post-op care for patients undergoing LASIK, PRK, SMILE, ICL, and related procedures. Conduct a range of diagnostic eye exams: visual acuity, slit lamp, tonometry, keratometry, topography, and more. Document all clinical findings and care plans thoroughly in patient medical records. Identify and manage ocular complications related to surgery. Counsel patients on surgical procedures, recovery, and eye health maintenance. Coordinate care with ophthalmologists and other specialists. Provide training and clinical supervision for residents or students. Engage in continuous quality improvement and staff education. Qualifications:
Degree:
Doctor of Optometry (OD) Education:
Graduate from a school accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) National Board of Examiners in Optometry certification Experience:
Minimum 1 year within the last 5 years working in a refractive surgery center (LASIK, PRK, SMILE, ICL) Must submit 2 letters of recommendation (at least one from a supervisor, within the last 2 years) Licensure:
Current, unrestricted therapeutic state optometry license or equivalent Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in refractive diagnostic procedures and post-surgical care Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking Excellent communication with patients and healthcare team Ability to document findings accurately and thoroughly Commitment to patient safety and quality care standards Benefits:
