SCSA has the largest and most experienced group of general surgeons in South Dakota. Experienced candidates preferred but new graduates will also be considered.

• Physician will cover Surgical Critical Care Service and Acute Care Surgery/Trauma Surgery Service

• Must be Board Eligible/Board Certified

• Must be Fellowship Trained in Surgical Critical Care

• SICU located within Sanford USD Medical Center; Surgical Center Clinic attached to hospital

• Level I Verified Adult & Level II Pediatric Trauma Center

• Work with and teach Surgical Residents/Advanced Practice Clinicians (Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners)**Community Description**Dedicated to the work of health and healing

With a competitive cost of living, no state income tax and amenities of a community twice its size, such as fine dining, shopping, arts, sports and nightlife, Sioux Falls is a welcoming and friendly place to call home.**Job Description**General Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery. Surgery Core privileges also include the ability to provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.**Qualifications**M.D. or D.O. degree.

Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency or fellowship log.ORAn applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.ORIf a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above.Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
