Substation Engineering Lead What You’ll Be Doing VPS is currently seeking a Substations Engineering Lead. As a Substations Engineering Lead, you will work with VPS power company clients, facilitating their design and deployment of substation systems that meet their long-term goals. The types of projects may include multi-year, phased construction projects; grant applications with tight deadlines; and other initiatives. This position will work as a bridge between onsite boots-on-the-ground staff, contractors, and technical engineering plans, helping bring projects from concept to fruition. The Substations Engineering Lead will design and oversee the design and construction of power substations, development, quality control and programming of protection and control schemes to meet our Partner Utility’s needs. The Engineer Lead will be responsible for training and developing new engineers and managing projects to ensure completion is on time and on budget. The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, professional, and adaptable. Attention to detail and strong interpersonal communication skills are vital. The nature of the role requires a team player – meaning someone who can take ownership of assigned tasks, collaborate well with other members of the team, and proactively seeks to help team members push a project to the finish line. Skills and Requirements Required Competencies Stay abreast of code requirements and the latest applicable technology Manage and coordinate multiple projects Develop complete designs including relay schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA layouts, etc. Perform thorough quality and control reviews at each project stage Develop substation equipment layouts Specify the required equipment, materials and assemblies to meet client needs Perform system wide planning studies and system health analysis Mentor and train new engineers Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and BKI staff Approve physical, electrical and control designs for construction, including bus and structural steel Provide field support during construction Initiate and support the required permitting processes Develop substation grounding designs and review existing grounding designs

Assist public utilities in developing best practices and operational directions Assist clients in the restoration of system outages and manage communication for emergencies Review and approve all estimates for proposed work Oversee or perform modeling for utility development, coordination, balancing, automated restoration, voltage control demand response, etc. Assist clients with answering day-to-day engineering questions Required Education & Experience A BSEE or BSEET degree, from an ABET accredited university, preferably with a power option. Current Professional Engineers (PE) License. Minimum of 8 years of experience in the power-energy industry Proven success in working with utility and construction personnel Experience working on multidisciplinary project teams Leadership skills, being able to directly supervise and mentor other engineers Familiarity with engineering standards such as RUS, IEEE, ANSI and NESC OSHA training in the compliance for the power-energy industry Requires overall general knowledge of the power system functionality for distribution and transmission, operations and maintenance of protection controls, SCADA development, AMI and OMS systems #J-18808-Ljbffr
