We’ve been dedicated to assembling a team of dedicated Middle Market leaders and underwriters who understand this space very deeply and who grasp the unique challenges of the various industry segments and the individual customers we serve. Zurich is currently looking for a Market Facing Underwriting Manager (Level I or Level II) to support our production underwriting team. This hybrid position will be based out of our Long Island office and is a unique leadership opportunity. In this role you will manage a small team of underwriters while also being an individual contributor with your own select book of business. This position requires you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and to be in the office two days per week to lead team collaboration days. Responsibilities: Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters Manage underwriting and rate strategies to promote profitable growth Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction. Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers. This role will be filled at either as a Level I or II. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position. Basic Qualifications: Level I : High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area Experience with Microsoft Office Level II : High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area 2 or more years of management experience Preferred Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of line/s of business Ability to manage and build rapport with team Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation The combined salary range for this position is $98,500.00- $215,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Level I is $98,500.00 - $165,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. For the Level II is $130,000.00- $215,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%. Zurich in North America is an equal opportunity employer.
