We are seeking an experienced Controls Software Specialist to join our engineering team focused on high-integrity embedded systems within the aerospace and defense sectors. This role offers the opportunity to lead software development efforts, apply secure cyber resilient engineering practices, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver certified, safety-critical control software.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with systems teams and customers to capture and synthesize software requirements for embedded safety-critical control systems.
Architect, design, develop, and verify software products throughout the full product lifecycle, including hardware/software integration and sub-system testing.
Lead cross-functional engineering teams to meet program objectives related to schedule, cost, quality, and compliance using agile methodologies.
Manage project risks including technical, cost, and schedule risks; integrate risk activities into project plans and escalate issues as necessary.
Prepare documentation such as functional descriptions, design assurance reports, and test results for certifying authorities and customer reviews.
Design software with functional safety and security in mind, adhering to aerospace civil or military qualification standards.
Basic Requirements:
Associate degree with 7+ years relevant engineering experience (Electrical, Software, Controls, Systems), OR Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline with 5+ years relevant experience, OR Master’s degree in STEM discipline with 3+ years relevant experience, OR JD/PhD in a related field. .
Preferred Qualifications: Strong systems thinking aptitude with the ability to understand complex systems, interactions, and dependencies throughout the system lifecycle. Proven ability to analyze and translate high-level requirements into embedded software systems and components. Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills adaptable to technical and non-technical audiences. Experience engaging with customers on funded programs, trade studies, R&D, and system architecture design in embedded controls. Proficiency in programming languages such as C, Python, Assembly, and Simulink; familiarity with model-based software design and simulation. Expertise in safety-critical control systems (DAL A-C), aerospace certification standards (RTCA/DO, Mil-STD), and security-safety interactions. Knowledge of U.S. Export Control regulations applicable to aerospace software and hardware. FPGA knowledge is a highly desirable bonus. Nice to Haves:
Experience with Rust programming. Understanding of DO standards and military standards for aerospace software. Prior work in aerospace, embedded systems, or defense industries.
