Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our client's finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical tax knowledge, hands-on experience with corporate and individual tax compliance, and a proven ability to drive process improvements. Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Prepare, review, and file federal, state, and local original and amended income tax returns for entities and individuals as applicable. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision calculations in accordance with GAAP and ASC 740. Manage withholding, payroll tax, sales/use tax, and other indirect taxes as required.
Tax Research & Planning
Conduct tax research on complex issues, provide conclusions, and implement positions with proper documentation. Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to optimize the effective tax rate and cash flow. Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations; assess impact on the organization and propose remediation steps.
Audit Support & Documentation
Prepare schedules, narratives, and supporting work papers for audits (federal, state, and local) and transfer pricing reviews. Respond to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities; manage correspondence and remediation.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Develop and maintain robust tax policies, procedures, and control activities. Automate recurring tax tasks using ERP/payroll/tax software; streamline data extraction and reporting. Collaborate with Controllership to ensure data integrity and accurate tax accounting in the general ledger.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with FP&A, Legal, Treasury, and Compliance to support strategic initiatives and large transactions (M&A, restructurings, reorganizations). Provide tax training and guidance to junior staff and finance peers.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
Supervise, coach, and develop junior tax staff; assign work, review results, and provide feedback. Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA/CPA candidate required or equivalent. Minimum of 3–5years of progressive tax experience, preferably in public accounting with industry exposure.
Technical Skills
Proficient in tax compliance software (e.g., GoSystem, ProSystem fx, TaxAct, or equivalent) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite). Strong knowledge of ASC 740, corporate and individual tax concepts, international tax basics (U.S. and state tax regimes). Familiarity with transfer pricing, BEPS, and tax automation tools is a plus.
Analytical & Communication Skills
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities. Clear written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax stakeholders.
Attention to Detail & Time Management
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
Ethics & Compliance
High level of integrity, adherence to professional standards, and confidentiality.
