THE POSITION:
The Senior Staff Accountant will supervise the Property Management Accounting staff in their day-to-day functions. The position will also direct CEDC’s property management financial affairs and prepare financial analyses of operations to guide management. The Senior Staff Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager. The role requires hands-on accounting skills and the ability to create and implement systems that ensure timely audits and reports.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role involves general accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, budget controls, and asset management. Essential functions include:
Supervising Property Management Accounting staff
Reviewing and approving all property management accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries
Maintaining property budgets and providing monthly analysis with recommendations to senior management
Creating property reserve submittals
Processing checks with appropriate backup and approvals
Handling daily/weekly bank deposits
Performing monthly bank reconciliations
Assisting in revenue receipt processing and coding/input into accounting software
Maintaining accounts payable files for invoices and checks
Assisting with year-end 1099 processing
Preparing, collecting, and maintaining W-9s and insurance files
Entering budgets into accounting software
Reviewing audit workpapers under CFO guidance
Maintaining department reporting calendar and scanning significant documents for electronic transfer
Monitoring insurance certificates for compliance with contracts
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of accounting experience, OR Associate’s degree with 3 years, OR High school diploma with 4 years of accounting experience
Experience in at least three of the following areas: non-profit affordable housing, debt refinancing, HUD programs, real estate accounting, financial analysis, property management, or related projects
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Proficiency in Excel and experience with Yardi software
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Strong collaborative and leadership skills
Analytical and accounting expertise
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Business and financial acumen
Ability to work effectively across departments and with external professionals
Interest or experience in non-profit organizations
Ability to support portfolio management with minimal supervision
Effective relationship-building skills
