Outside Sales Representative - Portland, OR

Overview Position summary: Sells products for MATHESON to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom or customer's place of business by performing duties below. Responsibilities Compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet sites, and other sources. Travel throughout the assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talk with customers on the sales floor or by phone. Display or demonstrate products using samples or catalog and emphasize salable features. Quote prices and credit terms and prepare sales contracts for orders obtained. Estimate delivery dates based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules. Prepare reports of business transactions and maintain expense accounts. Work with inside sales and route sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date. Coordinate customer training. Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database. Develop and maintain relationships with purchasing contacts. Investigate and resolve customer problems with welding processes, equipment and deliveries. Attend trade shows and perform inside sales when needed. Assist with semi-annual inventories and with co-workers and customers on technical welding questions. Assist in collecting outstanding account balances and perform other projects and duties as assigned. Hours Typical hours are Monday through Friday, matching the requirements of the customer base. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, clients, vendors, managers or employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Driver's License Hazardous materials training and certification Education / Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent from four-year college or related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2-5+ years of experience in Industrial Sales, preferably Gases/Medical Gases/Propane and Welding supply sales. Proven track record in sales and account management and development. Profit and loss analysis on proposed sales orders and understanding of profit margins. Experience making sales presentations and demonstrations.
