Overview
ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Recycling Technician for our ISS2 contact supporting our Air Force customer. This position is on Wake Island, located 2,100 miles west from Honolulu, Hawaii, for 3 months on island and 1 month off island rotational union position. While on-site housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. You are responsible for the flight from your home base to Honolulu, and transportation from Honolulu to Wake Island is provided by government sponsored aircraft. Summary The incumbent collects, consolidates, and packages for shipment hazardous and non-hazardous wastes and recyclable materials. Essential Duties & Job Functions
Ensures hazardous waste is collected, packaged, and processed per contract requirements. Performs inspections of less than 270-day storage area (MAP) and all accumulation points on site. Determines type and quality of recyclable materials, stores recyclable materials for maximum convenience of handling preparatory to shipment and for protection from deterioration. Collects recyclable materials from collection points. Operates forklift to transport and stock loaded pallets in warehouse. Collects environmental samples as necessary. Maintains documentation of all activities performed, waste collection or transfer, and sampling information as necessary. Assists with maintaining adequate inventories of hazardous waste management supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Accountable For
Ability to use a hand truck or forklift. Ability to understand, speak, read and write English. Mandatory Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations)
High school graduate or equivalent. 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certificate 40-Hour RCRA Hazardous Waste Management/Regulations Certificate in accordance with 40 CFR 260-280. Current DOT/IATA/IMDG certifications in accordance with 40 CFR 172.700-704, or if previously held but lapsed then the ability to obtain certification within ninety (90) days of hire. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. without assistance. Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, fingerprints, and drug test. Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries Preferred
Previous experience with hazardous waste collection, storage, and disposal and the regulations that govern them. Confined space entry training. Benefits
