Senior Project Scientist – Site Assessment & Remediation

BL Companies is seeking a mid-level Environmental Scientist or Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join our growing Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation Group. In this role, you will support a wide range of environmental projects across our full-service platform, gaining experience in technical field work, project management, proposal development, regulatory compliance, and advanced technical reporting. This position offers significant growth potential within a supportive and empowering culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Phase II and III environmental site investigations
Supervise and perform sampling during remediation activities, including excavation, system installation, UST removals, in-situ treatment (e.g., subsurface injections), and system O&M
Oversee drilling and other field subcontractors
Log soil borings, coordinate well installations, and collect soil and groundwater samples
Maintain thorough field documentation and contribute to data evaluation and report preparation
Prepare Connecticut Transfer Act filings and other regulatory documentation
Support the implementation and oversight of health and safety protocols in the field
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field
A minimum of 6 years of relevant environmental field and project experience
Proficient in sampling soil, groundwater, air, and other environmental media
Strong working knowledge of Connecticut and federal environmental regulations, including the CT RSRs, TSCA, SCGD, and Transfer Act, along with awareness of pending changes
Experience managing Phase I, II, and III ESAs, remedial planning, and site remediation projects, including coordination with clients, stakeholders, and subcontractors
Excellent technical writing skills, with the ability to develop clear, concise reports and actionable recommendations
Ability to prepare technical scopes and cost estimates for proposals
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Capability to work in varying field conditions and travel to remote sites
Ability to lift and carry field equipment (up to 50 pounds)
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or GIS
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
Willingness to travel to support project and office needs throughout the region
