Assistant Director for Community Development & Belonging

to advise and lead chapter and council development, as well as community and belonging initiatives. The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the mission and goals of the university, strengthen scholarship and character, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage State College through community service and philanthropic efforts, and affirm personal and organizational responsibility. This position will report to the Associate Director for Community Development & Belonging and will support chapter leaders, advisors, and local house corporation personnel within a fraternity and sorority community of approximately 70 chapters and 4 distinct councils. Responsibilities

Advise and develop one or more governing councils, including attending regular executive board and council meetings and supporting council governance and programming. Coach chapters across all four governing councils, including regular meetings with chapter presidents, recruitment officers, new member educators, membership development officers, and philanthropy and service officers. Collaborate with University departments to advise and support at least one community development program. Provide guidance on the Chapter Recognition & Standards of Excellence program. Review and discuss chapter Recruitment/Intake Plans and First Semester of Membership Plans. Communicate and partner with chapter advisors, alumni, inter/national headquarters representatives, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the progress of local chapters. Coordinate and facilitate regular chapter advisor roundtable meetings. Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate graduate or undergraduate student assistants. Assist in the development and facilitation of governing council and chapter educational programs. Candidates must demonstrate

Understanding of student development and health and safety issues in the fraternity and sorority community. Ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and providing culturally competent and inclusive services to students and organizations from historically underrepresented communities. Record of collaboration with students, University departments, inter/national headquarters, and other stakeholders. Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching. Ability to balance holding students accountable with developing positive and trusting relationships. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict. Presentation and training facilitation skills. Qualifications & Requirements

The position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and 3+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required. Benefits
