Salary: $79,560.00 ($38.25 an hour) - $86,028.80 ($41.36 an hour) Supervisor: Eric Edwards- District Attorney Responsibilities

Represents the state in criminal jury trials, non-jury trials, probation violation hearings, juvenile delinquency, bond hearings, pleas, appeals, etc. Conducts investigations of cases to determine and ensure sufficient legal and factual merit for prosecution; obtains statements from victims and witnesses. Conducts plea negotiations for disposition of criminal cases. Prepares for and conducts trials; performs jury selection; prepares/presents opening statements; performs direct and cross examinations; presents evidence; argues motions and objections; prepares jury instructions, closing arguments, publication of verdicts and sentencing. Prepares and presents indictments for grand jury. Negotiates sentence recommendations as appropriate based on legal and factual information. Performs legal research; reviews current and updated case law and statutes. Compiles and/or tracks administrative and/or statistical data; prepares or generates reports; maintains records. Processes documentation associated with departmental operations; distributes or maintains records as appropriate. Prepares routine correspondence, forms, reports, motions, briefs, indictments, orders, and other documents; proficient with computer applications (WordPerfect, PowerPoint, Excel). Operates a computer to research, review, enter and/or modify information in databases. Maintains file system of department records. Provides general legal information and education to officials and the general public, including legal training to law enforcement agencies. Answers the telephone; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel. Responds to routine information requests from officials, employees, the public or other individuals. Maintains current publications, manuals, policies/procedures, bulletins, etc., for reference and review. Maintains knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; reads professional literature; maintains affiliations; attends workshops and training as appropriate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of state civil and criminal law, torts, contracts, civil rights, administrative process, real property; knowledge of court structure, procedures, and relevant judicial practices. Knowledge of legal research methods and standards; proficiency with legal documents and court filings; knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Skill in operating standard office equipment and software. Ability to interpret and apply laws; assess situations; make independent decisions; handle complex trial and appellate litigation; organize work and establish priorities; exercise discretion and independent judgment; maintain confidentiality; prepare detailed reports; communicate effectively orally and in writing; speak effectively in public; establish and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders; work under stress when required. Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree required; prefer one year of experience in criminal prosecution or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain valid State Bar of Georgia license. Physical and Other Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to operate a variety of automated office equipment; light work physical demands. LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and write complex legal documentation; communicate clearly in public speaking situations. INTELLIGENCE: Ability to learn and apply complex legal concepts; make independent judgments. VERBAL APTITUDE: Ability to deliver information and explain procedures. NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret statistics.
