JOB TITLE:
Managing Optometrist POSITION PURPOSE: Provide exceptional patient care through proper diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions and diseases. Examine eyes and visual systems, diagnose issues, prescribe corrective lenses, and administer treatments, including therapeutic drugs for specific eye conditions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are considered essential job functions for the role: Prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses. Counsel patients on surgical and non-surgical options tailored to their visual needs and lifestyle. Assess patients' eyewear needs and recommend products to optimize vision and eye health. Conduct eye exams and provide vision services. Treat common eye conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses. Provide low vision aids and vision therapy. Diagnose eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis. Prescribe medications for eye conditions in accordance with state guidelines. Participate in pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients. Communicate effectively with patients to gather detailed case histories. Offer advice and reassurance regarding vision health. Write referral communications to other healthcare providers. Collaborate with other medical practitioners in managing chronic ophthalmic conditions. Coordinate with optical staff to ensure proper communication of prescriptions. Meet sales targets related to spectacles and contact lenses. QUALIFICATIONS: Competencies and Education: Strong business acumen, self-discipline, and tactful patient interaction skills. Attention to detail and manual dexterity. Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution. Successful completion of the National Board examination and a state-recognized clinical exam.
