The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and related equipment with a high level of proficiency, including scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Essential Functions

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam; contacts ordering provider for discrepancies. Identify patients using two identifiers and explain procedures. Prepare patients and document on appropriate worksheets. Interview patients for complete medical history. Review EMRs for in-patients, ER, and outpatients to obtain pertinent clinical history; record on requisitions and correlate with exam findings. Assume responsibility for the exam from start to finish including dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast per protocols; document type and amount as requested. Evaluate image quality; consult Radiologist as needed; process additional images or measurements as instructed. Perform basic patient care; inform nursing staff of changes; initiate life support if necessary and assist in code procedures when required. Perform MRI scanning and assist physicians during invasive procedures; maintain sterile technique and follow infection control policies. Obtain medications or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice radiation safety for staff, patients, and others; follow safety standards. Report equipment malfunctions and maintain knowledge of safety for working around magnetic fields. Adhere to fire and safety procedures; attend in-service trainings and required safety modules. Operate radiology computer systems, enter orders, and document contrast administration in MAR. Maintain neat, stocked work areas; assist other medical personnel (e.g., anesthesia) as needed during MRI exams. Comply with MRI safety requirements for staff and patients around magnetic fields. Minimum Job Requirements

Education, Certification / License, Work Experience Graduate of an ARRT-recognized program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Active enrollment in MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required. MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire. CPR certification required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles; applies skills appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and needs of the patient population served. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Requires moderate to heavy physical effort to lift and move patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting; frequent bending, twisting, kneeling or stretching. May be exposed to various conditions such as moving equipment and stairs. Must follow radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure. Preferred Job Requirements
