Overview The Consumer Benefits Specialist provides consumers with assistance in determining eligibility for, access to, and maintenance of Medicaid benefits and entitlements. The role includes meeting with consumers to assist with SSI/SSDI program applications and follow-up, including referrals to vendors for benefits, initial applications, administrative law judge hearings, claims, and appeals.

Provides community referrals and representation during administrative law judge hearings in a court setting. Provides benefit renewal assistance with the application process and maintenance of eligibility for Medicaid programs such as QMB, MQMB, and various Medicaid waivers. Makes necessary social service referrals within the community based on consumer needs such as food stamps, TANF, and Medicare prescription extra help applications. Serves as presenter and/or designee on benefits training across programs and departments.

Responsibilities

Serve in a regional capacity supporting multiple locations and work closely with referral vendors as primary referral contact.

Assist consumers with eligibility determination, enrollment, and ongoing maintenance of Medicaid benefits and related entitlements.

Meet with consumers to aid with SSI/SSDI program applications and follow-up, including referrals to vendors for help with benefits, initial applications, administrative law judge hearings, claims, and appeals.

Provide community referrals and representation during administrative law judge hearings in a court setting.

Assist with benefit renewals and applications to ensure ongoing eligibility for Medicaid programs (e.g., QMB, MQMB) and related waivers.

Refer clients to social services (e.g., food stamps, TANF, Medicare prescription extra help) based on assessed needs.

Present or designate as presenter on benefits training across programs and departments.

Location and Compensation Location: Seguin, Gonzales and Lockhart, TX

Hourly Salary Range: $21.46 – $26.21

Credentials and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field. If the degree is not in Human Services, a minimum of 24 credits in a human services field. Applicable experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree.

Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security applications.

Experience working with persons with disabilities in a healthcare or rehab setting.

Strong computer and communication skills.

Ability to work as a member of a team to support the overall benefits needs of persons served.

Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment.
