Senior HR Generalist (Employee Relations/ Conflict Resolution) – onsite Medical Center Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group. At Houston Methodist, the Senior Human Resources (HR) Generalist provides expert HR support to assigned business units/clients in areas such as employee relations consultation/conflict resolution, policy interpretation, management consultation, talent acquisition, workforce data analysis, and performance empowerment. This role requires strong emotional intelligence and critical thinking to work effectively with all levels of management and staff, quickly shifting among functional areas to anticipate HR needs and meet deadlines. The Senior HR Generalist may train and guide other HR team members as appropriate.

Overview Provide subject matter expert HR support across multiple functional areas, ensuring policy interpretation, coaching, and guidance align with business objectives and legal requirements. Demonstrate leadership within the HR team and contribute to system-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

Participate in activities related to employee relations, including conflict resolution, counseling managers and staff, interviewing (follow-up, exit, focus groups), and coaching on employee relations, policy interpretation, procedures, benefits, compensation, job descriptions, payroll, turnover, employee satisfaction, performance management, conflict resolution, and legal issues (e.g., FMLA, ADA, sexual harassment).

Serve as a role model and mentor peers; identify opportunities to improve department turnover/retention/employee engagement.

Collaborate with HR colleagues across the system on initiatives.

Consult with management on performance improvement needs and develop action plans.

Develop and execute strategies with HR leadership and operations to support business objectives, retention, and employee satisfaction.

Attend client department meetings to share HR updates and gather operational changes; identify HR intervention opportunities to support business goals.

Support proactive workforce planning; monitor turnover and time-to-fill trends to assist staffing; partner with recruitment to remove barriers to filling positions; may participate in recruitment.

Deliver training for new employee orientation, management education, and supervisor skills; assess and recommend improvements in management skills.

Interpret HR policy and procedures, recommend process improvements, and educate staff on new policies.

Conduct investigations (e.g., EEOC charges, business practice complaints, unemployment claims); prepare summaries for leadership decisions.

Analyze workforce data; prepare reports and recommend actions to improve HR metrics.

Explain compensation policies, participate in compensation analysis, and advise on compensation-related discussions; collaborate with compensation colleagues on joint solutions.

Support change management initiatives and identify development opportunities; maintain ongoing development planning.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree.

Experience: Four years of HR experience with at least three years in employee/labor relations, organizational consulting, recruitment, compensation, and/or benefits administration.

Licenses/Certifications – Required: N/A

Licenses/Certifications – Preferred:

PHR – Professional in Human Resources (HRCI)

SPHR – Senior Professional in Human Resources (SHRM)

SHRM-CP – Certified Professional in HR (SHRM)

SHRM-SCP – Senior Certified Professional in HR (SHRM)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills; solid knowledge of federal and state employment laws; proficiency with MS Office; data analysis and reporting; ability to adapt to changing priorities; sound judgment and critical thinking; ability to guide change management and work with diverse client groups.

Supplemental Requirements

Work Attire: Business professional

On-Call: No (note: on-call may be required during emergencies)

Travel: May require travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area
