POSITION DESCRIPTION UCR Extension is seeking artificial intelligence practitioners to deliver university-developed curriculum in AI on a part-time basis. Extension offers a Professional Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence. Courses focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning, including data preparation techniques (data collection, cleaning, and feature engineering). Learners train, validate, and fine-tune AI models, including large language models. The applied capstone course provides hands-on experience deploying and monitoring AI models in real-world applications. Audiences include adult learners (domestic and international) and visiting students from abroad. Courses may be taught online or in classroom settings. UCR operates on a quarter system; courses are typically 10–12 weeks, with opportunities to teach in short-term courses as well. Note: courses include: Artificial Intelligence: Principles and Techniques Data and Data Preparation for AI AI Practicum (project-based) Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (short course) Responsibilities
Provide instruction in accordance with the established instructional agreement, curriculum outlines, and class schedule provided by University Extension. Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies of the course. Work with collaborative partners and subject matter experts to ensure course information is current. Participate in scheduled orientations, meetings, and mandatory training programs by UCR’s deadlines. Maintain timely and accurate academic records within the learning management system and submit required documentation as outlined in the Instructional Agreement. Maintain professional conduct and follow UCR Extension’s Instructor Manual and Curricular Guidelines. Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner. Stay current with the professional body of knowledge in the field of practice. Complete administrative tasks promptly, including hiring paperwork, updated syllabi, instructor contracts, textbook orders, and AV/classroom needs. Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies to engage international audiences. Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to reinforce student learning. Update materials periodically and monitor course evaluations to improve the curriculum. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution. Extensive background and current work experience in Artificial Intelligence. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Additional Qualifications
Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity. Current participation in professional associations. Strong oral and written communication skills to interact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and education partners. Computer skills sufficient to prepare class materials and exams, and enable effective communication with stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching adult learners. Experience with curriculum development and course design. Optional Qualifications
