The Web Developer II role supports the Division of Student Life by designing and maintaining websites that inform, engage, and inspire UF students, families, and the broader community. Situated within Student Life’s Marketing and Strategic Communications department, this role designs, manages, and optimizes websites and web applications across the division.
This role blends technical expertise in front- and back-end development with an understanding of accessibility, usability, and visual design, ensuring all digital platforms reflect Student Life’s priorities, comply with university standards, and provide a seamless experience for users.
Job Responsibilities:
Accessibility, Compliance & Brand Standards:
Ensure all Student Life websites meet accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1 AA), UF brand guidelines, and university digital policies within the scope of position responsibility. Validate that code is properly structured, secure, and compliant with industry standards. Partner with marketing and communications staff to ensure style, branding, and governance standards across web content. Collaboration, Training & Support:
Work closely with marketing, communications, and UFIT partners to plan and deliver web projects. Provide technical support and training to content editors and staff across Student Life departments. Communicate changes, updates, and technical recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Analytics, SEO & Optimization:
Monitor and evaluate site performance using analytics platforms and technical auditing tools. Track uptime, load speed, and system efficiency, and implement enhancements that improve reliability and user experience. Apply technical SEO best practices (e.g., metadata, structured data, indexing, accessibility validation) to ensure sites are discoverable and compliant with industry standards. Provide technical reports and recommendations to inform content strategy and highlight opportunities for performance and maintenance improvements. Research & Professional Development:
Stay current with emerging web technologies, accessibility standards, and design trends. Explore and implement new tools, methods, and approaches to improve site performance and user experience. Participate in continuing education, workshops, and professional networks to support ongoing growth. Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience, or an associate degree and four years of appropriate experience. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with server-side scripting (PHP) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress). Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA or higher). Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows. Knowledge of web servers (Apache) and databases (SQL). Familiarity with Single Sign-On (SSO) and Active Directory group permissions. Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics, SiteImprove) and SEO optimization. Experience working with APIs to integrate third-party services and enhance website functionality Knowledge of security best practices for web infrastructure (patching, monitoring, threat mitigation). Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams. Demonstrated interpersonal skills Demonstrated skills in project management Demonstrated experience building and maintaining responsive, mobile-first websites. Ability to analyze data and provide solutions to complex problems including hand-on experience working with technologies and using advanced problem-solving skills Proven ability to effectively work in a collaborative and complex environment with multiple stakeholders Ability to work independently Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multifaceted environment Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility to adjust schedule is required including occasional evenings and weekends depending on the demands of position and/or department needs.
