Opportunity: Postdoctoral Researcher Position: Multi-omics examination of phytoplankton blooms

The Rynearson lab at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography invites applications to fill a Postdoctoral Researcher position focused on investigating phytoplankton bloom dynamics as part of a funded NSF grant that includes investigators from the University of Washington and Georgia Institute of Technology. Responsibilities

Analyze metatranscriptome datasets from two years of existing field samples. Integrate metatranscriptome data with existing proteome and metabolome data. Apply time series statistics to this multi-omics dataset to examine different stages of a bloom life cycle. Disseminate results in peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Contribute to the functioning of the lab and assist with student mentoring; develop future research projects as encouraged. No teaching requirement or expectation to write research grants, though opportunities may be provided. Qualifications

Ph.D. by December 2025 in Oceanography, Biology, Computer Science or a related field. Demonstrable experience with bioinformatic and statistical analyses of high-throughput RNA-seq data; familiarity with cell biology. Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) and quantitative analytical skills. Appointment

The position is for 12 months initially, commencing ASAP and renewable depending on funding availability and performance. The successful candidate will receive training in research collaboration, mentoring, and presentation and publication of results. To Apply
