Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Senior Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) with strong expertise in enterprise system administration, security, and performance optimization. This role will be responsible for administering and maintaining UNIX/Linux systems, managing system backups, ensuring security compliance, and supporting both hardware and software configurations within DoD environments. The successful candidate will bring hands-on knowledge of TCP/IP, firewalls, and advanced security tools, combined with leadership ability to mentor junior administrators and oversee operational readiness of mission-critical systems. Key Responsibilities
Perform administration of Unix/Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades. Manage system backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and system availability. Oversee software management, including installation of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and in-house applications. Implement and monitor security management and vulnerability remediation in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements. Configure and maintain hardware platforms supporting Unix/Linux environments. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, including system performance and resource allocation. Conduct system sizing, tuning, and optimization for reliability and scalability. Administer and monitor network protocols such as TCP/IP, ensuring secure and efficient data transmission. Apply knowledge of network security tools, firewall management, and advanced threat detection methods. Stay current with computing and networking vulnerabilities, attack vectors, and emerging detection/prevention techniques. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to system administration teams. Required Qualifications
Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix/Linux system administration. Proven expertise in:
System backup/recovery and software management Security management, patching, and compliance Hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance System tuning, performance analysis, and resource allocation TCP/IP networking and firewall/security tool administration Knowledge of vulnerabilities, attack methods, and detection techniques
Must be designated as IAT Level III (per DoD 8570.01-M). Must hold or be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field. Advanced certifications such as RHCE, CompTIA CASP+, CISSP, or equivalent IAT III certifications.
