Responsibilities

Design and implement advanced control algorithms for power electronic applications

Develop control system software requirements to write embedded code for 3-phase Active Rectifier, Motor Control electronics

Contribute to system design and independently develop subsystem designs that meet requirements, considering tradeoffs between requirements, cost and reliability

Test/debug power electronics controllers, source and assembly level debugging

Optimize software performance in collaboration with control system engineers

Work with suppliers to review control software design

Lead or support software design review activities; interface with vendors, customers and other departments on technical issues

Independently own or lead a team for small/medium size software development

Review, check and approve work by peers and lower level engineers

Provide guidance and training to lower level engineers

Assess standard work and support or lead improvement projects

Coordinate across engineering, industrialization and operations to navigate the company

Analyze customer requirements and validate them by analysis/modeling/prototyping or based on existing product performance

Create software requirements specification and hardware/software interface control documents

Create verification plan for validating product compliance to requirements

Interface independently with technical analysts to define the software design

Qualifications Education and/or Experience

Bachelors or Masters or PhD Degree in electrical or computer engineering from a recognized ABET accredited institution or equivalent

Bachelor's Degree in electrical or computer engineering with 8+ years of software design experience in aerospace industry

Master's Degree in electrical or computer engineering with 6+ years of software design experience in aerospace industry

PhD Degree in electrical or computer engineering with 3+ years of software design experience in aerospace industry

Physical/Work considerations

Physical Demands – Regular movement around the office

Work Environment – Noise level is usually minimal

Travel – Periodical travel may be 5-10 days per quarter

Special Skills & Knowledge

Hands-on programming skills in C/C++, VHDL/Verilog and scripting languages such as Perl/Python or PowerShell

Knowledge in embedded systems architecture and programming

Programming skills in LabVIEW

Programming for firmware on DSPs/microcontrollers (e.g., TMS320F28XX DSP, PIC16XX, MC68XXX, X86 DSPs)

Competencies

Analytical: experience in complex embedded software architecture and design; knowledge of active rectifiers, PFC, inverter and motor control software

Design: CAN, ARINC429, I2C, SPI, RS232 software modules

Technical Skills: ability to use PSIM, MATLAB, Simulink

Interpersonal: strong work ethic, ability to communicate and work in a team

Hands-on experience with electronics equipment and instrumentation for product parameter characterization and validation

Understanding of communication protocols (CAN, ARINC, SPI, RS-232)

Experience with aerospace regulations (RTCA/DO-160/DO-178 and DO-254)

Knowledge of major aerospace OEM electronics design guidelines

Leadership capability to guide engineering teams

Experience with design/simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
