Overview

Ochsner Health seeks a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to enhance the care of at-risk or critically ill neonates/infants. This role collaborates with the Medical Director or approved staff physicians and the NICU leadership team to plan, implement and evaluate medical and nursing care. The position involves primary medical management, emergency stabilization, emergency transport of neonatal patients, teaching and precepting NNP students, NICU residents, staff development and education, parental education, and discharge planning. The role provides 24/7 in-house coverage for all NICUs and coverage for high-risk deliveries. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Medical Director or approved staff physician and partners with PCCs, staff nurses, and the discharge coordinator in care planning and evaluation. Responsibilities

Utilize approved medical practices in the delivery of patient care. Communicate pertinent information to families and team members to ensure accurate patient management. Provide care aligned with patient age-specific criteria, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Maintain clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials; pursue ongoing professional development. Provide education to families, staff, other health professionals, and the community. Maintain an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes; may contribute to research methods. Work as a contributing team member and lead interdisciplinarity when needed. Adapt communication and care to the patient population, respecting privacy and consent. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications

Education NNP

– Master’s degree in nursing (or exception for those employed prior to 2003 with NNP certificate). PA

– Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved PA program. Physician Assistant with a Neonatal Fellowship year. Work Experience NNP

– 2 years of related nursing experience. PA

– 3 years of NICU experience in lieu of NICU fellowship. Certifications NNP

– Current APRN license in the state of practice; NCC Neonatal Nursing Certification. PA

– Current PA license; NCCPA certification; BLS; NRP; STABLE; eligible for prescriptive authority per state board. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Advanced procedures specific to the role (e.g., chest tube placement, intubation, lumbar puncture, central line placement, arterial/catheter procedures). Computer literacy and data entry skills. Proficiency with Windows-based applications and keyboards. Flexibility to work 24/7, including weekends and holidays, with on-call availability. Strong verbal and written communication for diverse stakeholders. Additional Job Duties

Deliver care per approved medical practices; communicate with families and team members. Provide family and patient education; support discharge planning. Engage in professional development and compliance with laws and standards; contribute to quality measures. Lead and participate in interdisciplinary teamwork; advocate for patient privacy and culturally competent care. Physical and Environmental Demands

Typical requirements include ability to stand for prolonged periods, travel between facilities, and perform tasks involving bending, reaching, and dexterity.
