TITLE: RN Supervisor (OSHA Classification 2) FLSA: Non-exempt POSITION SUMMARY: Under the Direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with department head management, responsible for the general management of the facility’s nursing operation, providing optimal quality of care, adhering to, and communicating the facility’s policies and procedures. Follows all health, sanitary and infection control policies and maintains established standards of practice set forth by the facility's administration and Nursing policies and procedures. TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing / Assistant Director of Nursing TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: Charge Nurses (RN/LPN) Certified Nursing Assistants Qualifications

Education / Experience: Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Connecticut. Minimum of one year of education or experience in geriatric nursing or rehabilitation preferred. CPR certified. Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Fluent knowledge of the MS Office suite and other office equipment. Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required. Ability to perform physically demanding work involving frequent bending, stooping, turning, stretching, and reaching above the shoulders are involved. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics/equipment that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Essential Functions

Interprets nursing policies and ensures appropriate implementation. Directs and enforces policies and procedures with staff, families, and visitors. Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel on assigned shift to maintain continuity of nursing care. Serves as a resource in all areas of clinical care and resolves work-related complaints of charge nurses and CNAs during the assigned shift. Makes rounds on nursing units to ensure maximum care and to ascertain condition of residents. Communicates family concerns. Responds to emergencies within the facility and provides medical oversight. Verifies that all clinical changes are reported to the physician and verifies physicians’ orders as needed. Secures pre-admission report on new residents. Ensures a safe environment for residents and staff; ensures all documentation on medical records is complete and accurate; conducts chart audits. Ensures availability of supplies and equipment; reports malfunctioning equipment. Follows up with the physician and medical director to ensure compliance with scheduled visits. Assumes supervisor responsibility for the facility on 2nd and/or 3rd shifts and/or weekends. Audits emergency drug cart and crash cart; controls drugs and counts controlled medications at shift changes. Ensures peripheral IVs are initiated per policy and oversees the IV program; policies updated annually. Assigns nursing personnel in emergencies to maintain patient care hours. Assists in recruitment, selection and orientation of nursing staff as needed. Completes 90-day and annual employee performance reviews when directed. Logs and returns eligible medications to the pharmacy in a timely manner. Attends weekly Medicare meetings and ensures certifications are completed for facility-directed Medicare residents. Attends meetings such as Fall Risk, Restraint, Wound Care, and Weight Loss as appropriate. Assumes other duties as assigned by DNS/ADNS and attends meetings as deemed necessary by Supervisor / Administrator and/or Director.
