Position & Office Overview
ECS is hiring a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead technical excellence, mentor staff, and support complex geotechnical projects across the region. This position offers a senior leadership track with broad impact and limited day-to-day project responsibility — your focus will be final technical review, mentoring, and supporting project delivery and growth. Responsibilities
Provide final review and technical oversight of geotechnical reports, calculations, and project deliverables Support project managers and staff with geotechnical problem-solving and technical guidance Host and attend client meetings; provide consultative insight and maintain quality standards Lead business development efforts; maintain a strong client network and contribute to firm growth Mentor Associate Principals and support training programs Review and sign contracts and proposals within Signature Authority limits Serve on the review committee for Principal-track candidates as needed Assist in department planning, staffing, and profitability efforts Participate in company-wide technical initiatives and interdepartmental collaboration Qualifications
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field Active PE (Professional Engineer) or PG (Professional Geologist) license in Texas (or ability to obtain) Minimum 12 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience Must have achieved designation as Associate Principal or be eligible via Board of Directors exception Valid driver’s license (if driving on behalf of ECS) Preferred Qualifications In-depth understanding of Texas geologic and geotechnical conditions Established presence in the local geotechnical community Proficient in geotechnical software for slope stability, deep/shallow foundations Experience with departmental P&L, hiring, and operational oversight What Sets This Role Apart Influence across both project and operational levels Leadership opportunities in technical mentoring and training High degree of autonomy with enterprise-level visibility Deep involvement in client development and community engagement About Us
