The Managing Attorney performs highly complex and/or supervisory (senior-level) legal work providing direction and guidance to management and legal staff of a Child Support Field Office. Work involves organizing employee work assignments, interpreting laws and regulations; and providing legal advice, counsel and assistance in representing the state’s interest in child support enforcement. CSD AAGs are part of a collegial statewide team dedicated to supporting Texas children and families. Represent the State of Texas at legal proceedings. Plan, organize, direct, and monitor office performance and take corrective actions to achieve assigned goals and objectives. Supervise all office personnel, including hiring, evaluating, counseling, and training under the direction of the Regional Director. Supervise office legal processes under the direction of the Senior Regional Attorney. Supervise and monitor the office budget. Monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, policies, procedures, and standards while providing excellent customer service. Respond to inquiries and resolve issues from agency management, government officials, attorneys, parents, advocacy and community groups and other customers. Serve as primary office legal counsel. Develop and deliver training. Performs related work as assigned and maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information and comply with all agency policies and procedures, including ethics and integrity. Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Experience: Four years of full-time legal experience as a licensed attorney, with at least two years in Family Law. Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas; eligible to practice law in Texas by start date. Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code. Skills in legal writing, mediation, negotiation, trial practice, investigations, and legal research. Proficiency with personal computers for word-processing and data entry/retrieval; ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Effective oral and written communication; sound judgment and decision making; ability to respond to feedback and work cooperatively in a professional office environment. Ability to provide excellent customer service; ability to work in person at the assigned OAG work location and collaborate with coworkers for the entirety of every work week unless on approved leave. Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel; ability to travel up to 25% (including overnight). Physical ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs. Preferred qualifications include experience with the Texas Child Support Program, high-volume practice, management experience, and proficiency in Spanish. Application
