The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at The Citadel invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish with expertise in the Caribbean (literature, culture, and/or related fields).

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field by the time of appointment

Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English

Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level

Evidence of (or clear potential for) a strong scholarly agenda

Responsibilities

Teach all undergraduate levels of Spanish language, literature, and culture

Offer special topics and first-year (freshman) seminars as needed

Standard 4-4 teaching load at a public, state institution

Contribute to departmental service and student mentoring

The department serves the undergraduate day program of approximately 2,000 cadets and offers a robust, faculty-led summer study abroad portfolio in Spain and Latin America. The Citadel Foundation provides competitive internal grants supporting research, conference travel, and professional development.
