Youth Programs provide a wide variety of services to low-income in-school (ages 14-21) and out-of-school (ages 16-24) youth to help them succeed in school and work. Program participants may receive a range of services from the following areas: Occupational skills training Career counseling Internships Job placements Mentoring Tutoring Leadership development Financial literacy Entrepreneurial skills training Local labor market and employment information services Postsecondary education and training transition support Workforce preparation and training activities designed for specific career clusters Additional supportive services Minimum Requirements:
Must be low-income and meet one of the following requirements: deficient in basic literacy skills; English Language Learner; a school dropout; homeless; a runaway; a foster child; an individual with a disability; pregnant or a parent; an offender; requires additional assistance to complete education or secure and hold employment. offers a comprehensive job center providing workshops and seminars. Topics include job search strategies, skills and abilities analysis, perfecting applications, effective resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques, computer classes, and a weekly job networking club. It also provides free technology use for career exploration and job searching needs, including computers with internet access, assessment and interview practice software, and the ability to create and print resumes and other employment-related documents. Additional resources include faxing applications to employers, copiers (limited to 4 copies), and phones available explicitly for job search. Employment and training programs provide more intensive services and programs available through WorkSource for qualifying low-income young people, adults, and workers age 55 and better; dislocated workers; displaced homemakers; veterans; individuals with a disability; migrant agricultural workers; ex-offenders; and others. WorkSource provides human resource assistance, help during layoffs, and access to resources for business development.
