Academic Director/Professor of the Practice of Public Administration and Public Policy and Data Analytics (R0008201) – based in Charlotte, North Carolina. This full-time faculty leadership position begins July 1, 2026, with an open date of Sep 4, 2025.
Location Wake Forest University, School of Professional Studies (Charlotte).
The School The Wake Forest University School of Professional Studies (SPS) accelerates the professional growth of adult learners and supports organizational talent development through partnerships of industry expertise and academic excellence. Programs are designed for professionals who apply skills directly to their careers and reflect best and emerging practices with rigorous, research-based knowledge.
The Academic Director's Role The Academic Director will provide academic oversight and strategic direction for the graduate Project Management and IT Management degree programs. The director will lead a collaborative team of faculty and staff, foster a culture of innovation and student success, guide program strategy and market positioning, ensure curriculum quality and relevance, monitor outcomes, and gather input from students, faculty, advisors, and other stakeholders. The director will engage with program faculty and industry leaders, lead Program Advisory Boards, mentor students, and partner with IT and project management professionals in the Charlotte region to advance program goals and community impact.
The candidate will be ranked as a professor of the practice (non-tenure track) and is expected to teach courses within the school in at least one of the two programs they lead.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree or higher in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a closely related field.
Significant leadership experience in public service or a nonprofit environment, with ability to lead and manage teams, formulate policy, and use data analytics for strategic decision-making.
Demonstrated expertise in data analytics and quantitative analysis related to public administration and policy.
Prior online graduate-level teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Prior academic leadership or business managerial experience is preferred.
About the Programs The Public Administration program develops leaders who can manage high-impact projects and policies in public, nonprofit, and governmental settings, with emphasis on digital transformation, sustainability, and equity. The Public Policy and Data Analytics program focuses on translating complex data into practical policy insights using a human-centered approach and data storytelling for policy influence, emphasizing ethical data use.
This joint leadership role builds synergies between public leadership and data-driven policy, requiring a leader passionate about both governance and data-informed decision-making.
