Overview ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST II

We are looking for a talented Environmental Scientist to join our team. This position involves the implementation of project work associated with sediment, soil, water, air, and biota investigations. You will also be performing online research helping to develop inventories of scientific literature and publicly available technical studies related to the monitoring and measurement of certain chemical compounds and the ecological and toxicological effects thereof.

The Environment Division within the Environment and Agriculture Business Line conducts research, characterization, and remediation of environmental contamination, and designs and implements environmentally sustainable remedial technologies.

Responsibilities

Conducting literature and public data research utilizing appropriate online research tools, including the Battelle Research Library; analyzing results for relevancy, completeness, and appropriateness.

Acquiring and organizing data and documents identified in research into a coherent, focused collection of information, accompanied by explanatory notes if relevant, so that the material is readily understandable to the user; working with project users to organize information according to their preference.

Compiling and maintaining an inventory of datasets for consideration by Subject Matter Experts for inclusion in a database of chemical, biological, and toxicological parameters.

Analyzing data and providing focused interpretive reports detailing environmental conditions, problems, solutions, and optimization recommendations specific to the project and environmental issues.

Developing procedures and collaborating with other staff in conducting laboratory and field activities that generate defensible technical data.

Analyzing and interpreting data collected in the laboratory and/or field and oversee the development of various reports which may include environmental laboratory studies, sampling plans, work plans, health and safety plans, site assessment reports, and proposals related to environmental project work.

Serving as lead for specific tasks and directing the work of others.

Participating in scientific conferences and increasing company visibility through publications.

Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate

Experience conducting literature research utilizing online research tools and documenting and organizing information obtained.

Experience managing tasks that are part of large projects/programs in the environmental monitoring and remediation for government and/or commercial clients.

Experience with sediment, soil, groundwater, and surface water contamination laboratory studies, field investigations and modeling projects.

Experience in preparation of technical documents.

Proven ability to both work independently and lead tasks with minimal oversight.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in environmental-related discipline (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, or environmental science) with at least 5 years’ experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Excellent organizational and documentation skills and attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Solid knowledge of literature search strategies and tools.

Ability to work in the office, laboratory, and/or field setting. Travel to out-of-state project locations and conferences very likely required.

Must be US Citizen.
