Overview
Under general supervision, the Cancer Registrar II primarily abstracts new cases. This position also performs follow-up and attends Tumor Board meetings among various other activities. Core Competencies
Identifies reportable neoplasms from Pathology, Radiation Therapy, and electronic patient records. Uses C/Next to collect statistical data from the patients medical records, including demographic characteristics, history of cancer, diagnosis, stage, extent of disease, treatment and abstracts this information in to the database. Identifies and codes topography and morphology of tumor cases using the ICD-03 Internal Classification of Diseases for Oncology. Follows-up annually on each known living patient accessioned into the registry from completion of treatment to death to determine their cancer status, quality, and length of survival, subsequent treatment, and complete death information. Answers telephone inquiries related to the status of registry patients and medical information. Maintains the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the Cancer Registry files. Collaborates with clinicians and nurse navigators, on research projects; indicate the strengths and limitations of Cancer Registry data; provide guidance as appropriate. Performs Cancer Data Management functions as assigned by Supervisor or other member of the CDM Team. Participates in cancer conferences with other Cancer Registry employees. Education
Graduate of an accredited Cancer Registry Training Program. Experience
