Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Executive Director of the Foundation provides strategic, creative leadership and management for the Foundation and its charge of securing revenue for the Diocese of Buffalo, the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, Christ the King Seminary, Catholic Charities, allied institutions and parishes. This position is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive advancement program that will provide sustaining, strategic, and long term support for these organizations. The Foundation Executive Director is expected to contribute broadly to all aspects of the fulfillment of the mission and growth of the diocese and assist the Bishop of Buffalo and other related leadership in articulating a multifaceted case for support to staff, donors, other key constituents, and the wider community. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develops and implements a measurable, multi-year, comprehensive advancement plan that: Strengthens the performance of the (7) non-revenue advancement activities - advancement services, constituents relations, communications, volunteer management, strategic planning, stewardship, and donor research. Strengthens and elevates goal oriented performance of the (5) core advancement revenue activities – special events, annual giving, major giving, capital campaign, and planned giving. Broadens and diversifies the base of philanthropic giving to the diocese and its constituent ministries, departments and organizations and increase net revenue from existing advancements programs and initiatives. Develops and implements a sound and effective endowment and grant making program as part of the mission of the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. Provides support for the work of the Bishop’s Council of the Laity (BCL). Serves as advancement counsel to parishes, schools and diocesan organizations and related institutions upon request. Develops, supervises, and manages the budget of the Office of Advancement and all related organizations and programs. Works collaboratively with other department directors and diocesan institutional leaders in support of their goals and objectives. Ensures the recruitment, training, supervision, and mentoring of the advancement staff. Ensures that all advancement activities are managed in accordance with diocesan policies, federal and state laws, and with the ethical standards of the National Catholic Development Conference (NCDC) and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Performs other duties or projects as assigned by the Bishop and/or Vicar General/Moderator of the Curia. Qualifications

Education:

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or field related to the mission of Church. Preferred:

Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Communications, and/or Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). Experience:

Minimum of 10 or more years of advancement (fundraising) experience with a track record of successfully soliciting gifts, cultivating relationships, managing events and working with volunteer leadership. Required Skills & Abilities

Demonstrates knowledge of the field of institutional advancement including the fundamentals of estate and gift planning and of the charitable giving. Possesses a deep appreciation, commitment, and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church. Knowledge of the greater Western New York philanthropic market and work with area leaders, donors, and projects is preferred. Strong personal work ethic, self-motivated and results-oriented. Possess personal qualities of integrity, compassion, and empathy which encourage the trust and confidence of others. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Superior communication skills both oral and written. Effective public speaking before large groups, leading informational sessions, writing marketing and communication materials. Ability to travel throughout the Diocese of Buffalo. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Valid New York State Driver’s License and Reliable Vehicle. Salary

$120,000 – $145,000 annually
