The Education Specialist is an advanced practice role responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational and clinical initiatives, with 24-hour accountability. There are three distinct roles within Nursing Education: Centralized and Decentralized. Responsibilities

Centralized: coordinate and teach centralized activities such as orientation and staff development programs for all nursing personnel. Decentralized: coordinate and teach unit-based clinical initiatives, orientation, staff development, and competency assessment with participation in centralized educational programs. Evening/Night: provide unit-based clinical support, orientation, staff development and competency assessment for evening/night staff, with participation in centralized educational programs. Provide educational programs and clinical support to all levels of nursing personnel within the Care Centers/Hospital/Specialty Areas. Develop, teach, coordinate and evaluate educational programs with full accountability for the same. Collaborate with clinical leadership to assess educational needs, plan programs and provide continuous competency assessment of staff. Provide clinical, educational and administrative resources to nursing personnel. Develop and support preceptors; provide mentorship to students and staff. Participate in and promote collegiality within the interdisciplinary health care team; communicate effectively and acknowledge effects of behavior on others. Assume preceptor responsibilities for new clinical staff and for newly hired Nursing Education staff as needed. Participate in clinical practices and educational programs for health care professionals and students; utilize standards, policies and procedures as appropriate resources. Serve as program leader/facilitator for assigned educational programs and participate in continuous quality performance improvement processes within the Nursing Department / Specialty Areas. Maintain records of educational programs and identify problems or safety and practice concerns, initiating the appropriate chain of command. Act as change agent for new initiatives and programs. Qualifications

Education Bachelors Degree in Nursing; Masters Degree in Nursing required. Experience 4 years of related nursing experience; 1 year in a teaching or leadership position required. Licensing and Certification RN license (current registration); professional certification in area of clinical practice preferred. Basic Life Support (BCLS) issued by AHA; certifications in NRP (Labor and Delivery, NICU), ACLS (various areas), and PALS (various areas) as applicable. Collective bargaining unit: NYSNA-MSH. The salary range for this role is $81.336 per hour; actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
