Overview
IXL Learning is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Leave of Absence & Benefits Specialist to join our team. This role serves as the primary point of contact for employees navigating leaves of absence and workplace accommodations, with backup support for the benefits team on projects like open enrollment, benefits audits, and wellness programs. This is a full-time position based in Raleigh, NC with a Monday–Friday in-office schedule and one optional remote day per week. Responsibilities
Manage every type of leave from FMLA and parental leave to short-term disability and workers’ compensation, ensuring employees feel supported at every step Serve as the main point of contact for employees and managers, answering questions about leave policies, paperwork, and timelines with clarity and empathy Meticulously track each leave case, maintain accurate records, and ensure proactive, timely communication Partner with payroll to ensure employees are paid correctly while on leave Monitor federal, state, and local laws to keep processes compliant and up-to-date Support interactive process for Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations, collaborating with HR Business Partners and managers Analyze data on leave requests to identify opportunities to improve policies and employee support Act as a point of contact for workers’ compensation claims and ensure timely reporting and OSHA log maintenance Collaborate with employees, managers, and insurance partners to manage work restrictions and facilitate safe transitions back to work Provide support for benefits programs by answering questions, assisting with wellness initiatives, and supporting plan audits Assist with crucial projects such as annual open enrollment and coordination with benefits vendors Serve as a backup resource during peak workloads or team absences Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field 3+ years of experience managing multi-state leaves of absence and accommodations; benefits experience preferred In-depth knowledge of FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, workers’ compensation, and state-specific leave laws Clear and empathetic communication style with the ability to simplify complex processes Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion Experience with insurance carrier claim systems Familiarity with Workday and Google Workspace is a plus About IXL Learning
