OUC – The Reliable One is presently seeking a Leave of Absence- Benefits Specialist to join the Employee Experience division. We are committed to innovation, sustainability, and community.

What You Will Do

Serve as the primary contact for employee and retiree inquiries on benefits, leave, and retirement.

Administer benefits and leave programs, including FMLA, ADA, STD/LTD, and retirement plan activities.

Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure accurate processing, reporting, and compliance.

Support open enrollment, new hire orientations, and day-to-day benefits operations.

Assist with audits, reconciliations, and continuous process improvements.

Stay up to date on laws and regulations affecting benefits and leave administration.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field from an accredited college or university. In lieu of a degree, equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be substitutable on a 1:1 basis.

3+ years of experience in benefits, leave administration, accommodations, or retirement programs.

Knowledge of laws and regulations such as ADA, FMLA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Comfortable working with HR systems and data reporting tools.

Experience partnering with third-party vendors, brokers, and insurance carriers to communicate, deliver, administer, and manage benefit, retirement, and leave of absence programs (preferred).

SHRM or HRCI Certified Professional or similar HR certifications preferred.

Salary and Location

Salary Range: $27.30 - $34.13 per hour (estimated $56,784.00 - $70,990.40 annually)

Job Details

Job Purpose: Supports OUC’s benefits, leave of absence, and retirement programs by responding to employee and retiree inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.

Manages administration of medical, dental, vision, and other health benefits; serves as primary point of contact for leave of absence cases, USERRA, and accommodation requests, ensuring compliance.

Primary Functions: Collaborate with leadership, clients, and the employee experience team to administer benefits, retirement and leave programs in accordance with policies and applicable laws.

Support benefits daily operations in partnership with third-party outsourcing vendors.

Serve as first point of contact for employee and retiree requests for benefits, leave of absence and retirement program information.

Respond to benefits inquiries on plan provisions and manage eligibility verification, changes, dependent eligibility, leave and disability coverage.

Handle retirement program enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, claims, rollovers, distributions, loans, and compliance testing.

Assist with reviewing routine claims and auditing employee contributions and payroll deductions; support audits related to claims, leave requests, and LTD/STD processes.

Perform financial reconciliations, retirement and benefits calculations, and process retirements.

Generate and provide reports and data; manage employee benefit files and ensure records are up to date.

Review and process all benefits, leave and retirement forms ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Partner with benefits and wellness teams to provide front-facing support for annual open enrollment and new hire orientations.

Partner with benefits leadership, HRIS and IT on ACA reporting and compliance matters for health plans, including 5500 filings and related testing.

Collaborate with risk management on Workers’ Compensation processes and return-to-work related to leave and benefits.

Engage in cross-functional projects to support benefits, wellness, and other HR programs.

Document standard operating procedures.

Collaborate with Payroll, IT, HRIS and external vendors to improve processes and leverage technology.

Stay informed on changes to laws and policies regarding benefits, leave, disability and retirement programs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Technical Requirements

Working knowledge of benefits, leave of absence, and retirement programs; trends and practices.

ADA and reasonable accommodation process.

Project coordination and support methods.

Data, metrics and reporting; software applications (e.g., JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Documentum).

General HR practices and regulatory frameworks (ADA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA).

Ability to communicate clearly; prioritize and organize work; review data and prepare reports; work in a team environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.

Education/Certification/Years of Experience

Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field; substitution rules as above.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in employee benefits, leave of absence, reasonable accommodations, or retirement programs.

Experience partnering with vendors, brokers, carriers (preferred).

Certifications: SHRM/HRCI or CEBS/CBP (preferred).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Working conditions: office environment with standard office hours. This job is primarily performed in an office setting.

Physical requirements: frequent talking, hearing, writing and typing; sitting, standing, walking; occasional kneeling, bending, reaching; lifting up to 20 lbs; may require driving a company vehicle.
