The Office of the Public Guardian is appointed by the Superior Court of California, County of San Luis Obispo, to act as the Probate or LPS Conservator for individuals who require conservatorship as defined by law and where no other viable option exists.

Employment/Resource Specialist III is part of a career series for Employment/Resource Specialist I, II, and III, however, the department is hiring at the Employment/Resource Specialist III level. The role involves managing medical insurance and Social Security benefits, serving as a liaison with the Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, and Department of Social Services, and working closely with County Counsel on legal filings. This position is responsible for a wide range of complex administrative, financial, and legal duties supporting conservatees and clients within the Representative Payee Program. The position also includes reviewing benefit applications, processing legal and financial documentation, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring accurate data entry in internal systems. The position also maintains case files for conservatorship cases, tracks court dates and annual reevaluations. It further requires conducting inquiries to locate conservatee assets and financial resources as needed, and assisting in the inventory of personal property belonging to conservatees. Click here

The ideal candidate will have experience working with public benefits (such as Medi-Cal, Social Security, and VA), conservatorship matters, or fiduciary responsibilities. They are highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating complex systems and regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and can effectively coordinate across multiple agencies and departments. They are knowledgeable about community resources, use department systems efficiently, and make sound decisions independently in a fast-paced environment. Minimum Qualifications A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Employment/Resource Specialist III:

Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. certificate.

Either A:

Twelve months demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of the team's assignment, which may include Welfare to Work, Cash Aid, Cal Fresh and Medi-Cal, as an Employment/Resource Specialist II in San Luis Obispo County,

OR B:

Eighteen months of experience performing duties comparable to an Employment/Resource Specialist II in a social services setting, with demonstrated experience in Welfare to Work, Cash Aid, Cal Fresh and Medi-Cal.
