Description

Performs accounting tasks for the City of Hopewell Enterprise Funds which includes Water Renewal, Sewer, Refuse, Marina, EDA, and The Beacon Theatre. Enterprise Accountant assists in preparing account analysis, reconciliations, fixed asset management, and financial reporting that include ACFR schedules while maintaining and updating financial records; applying current GAAP and complying with current professional financial accounting and reporting standards; working in accordance with established operating policies and procedures.

Examples of Duties

Ability to perform data extraction and manipulation, analyze financial data, and generate reports. Ability to analyze variances to budgets/forecasts/accruals, explain to management, and create corrective action plan. Ability to perform reconciliations, prepare journal entries and manage accounts/funds Monitors overall revenue and expenditures throughout the fiscal year for compliance with budget projections Strong analytical and organizational skills to oversee and balance multiple work assignments. Compiles and assembles financial and operating information to be used by others, such as financial documents and records for internal management/supervision and external auditors, contractors, and regulators. Assists with compiling relevant financial/fiscal data for preparation of the department's annual budget. Prepares standard reports and journal entries for financial transactions over a period of timefor specific accounts. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization. Manages long-term tangible assets, such as property, plant, and equipment, by tracking acquisitions, calculating depreciation, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Demonstrates compliance with debt covenants by calculating debt coverage ratios, as applicable. Prepareslong-termdebtanddebtservicepaymentschedulesandrelatedjournalentriesforannual audit. Assist other team members with the development and installation of accounting systems, methods, procedures and controls Performs special projects and other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate. Typical Qualifications MinimumEducationandExperience:

Bachelor'sdegreeinaccountingorarelatedfieldoranyequivalenteducationandatleast3yearsof accounting experience. Licenses and/or Certifications:

CPA preferred Knowledge, Skills& Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of accounting (GAAP). Knowledge of analyzing general ledgers and preparing general journal entries. Knowledge of accounts receivable/billing and accounts payable/disbursement processing Knowledge of budget development and processing. Knowledge of fixed asset management. Knowledge of long-term debt and debt service schedules and payments. Thorough knowledge of data processing applications and procedures. Knowledgeoffederal,state,andlocallawsandpoliciesrelatedtofinancial/fiscal operations. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Quantitative, analytical, managerial, customer service, and communication skills. Ability to apply knowledge of accounting standards and budgeting practices. Ability to learn and apply complex accounting standards Ability to research, analyze, reconcile, and report financial/fiscal data. Ability to utilize automated accounting systems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, other employees, and various City officials. Supplemental Information Work Environment:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled, and pleasant environment. It maybe required, as the need arises, to conduct field visits for pre-bid conferences. Essential Physical Activities:
