Summary: This role coordinates shift or multiple shift operations within manufacturing departments through indirect subordinate supervisors, with responsibilities for meeting budget, quality, and production goals, setting standards, and staffing decisions. It interprets manufacturing policies, procedures, and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet production requirements and deliver quality products to customers in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Identify, prioritize, and provide resources to help the department manager meet the annual operating plan and budget.
- Supervise daily manufacturing operations across a department or multiple departments.
- Emphasize training and implement control systems on the shift or multiple shifts to eliminate product discrepancies.
- Commit to employee feedback and developmental processes; provide a positive and equitable working environment aligning with Baxter Leadership Expectations.
- Support and emphasize the department’s Safety and Quality commitments.
- Make staffing decisions and manage disciplinary actions up to suspensions or terminations as needed.
- Drive operational excellence and flawless execution in areas such as cost reduction, waste reduction, productivity improvements, inventory turnover, regulatory excellence (including non-conformance reduction), on-time delivery, and lead time reduction.
- Foster a culture of Lean Manufacturing, total employee involvement, and DMAIC problem solving.
Qualifications
- Ability to manage departmental activities through subordinates with responsibility for cost, methods, and personnel.
- Ability to interpret and analyze statistical data and financial reports; ability to resolve technical difficulties and interface with internal engineering/technical teams and external representatives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting and be resourceful for a large department.
- Knowledge of World Class manufacturing methods (Lean, Six Sigma), Good Manufacturing Practices, FDA guidelines, and process validation.
- Must not be allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs.
Education and/or Experience
- Requires a B.S. or equivalent, preferably in a technical discipline, with 5–7 years of experience in all aspects of the manufacturing process.
