Green Ridge Recreation Center is looking for a skilled professional to provide instruction for both land- and water-based fitness classes to individuals and groups. Maintains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment to ensure high-quality programming that aligns with department goals. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports directly to the Recreation Program Supervisor.
Shift Hours and/or Days Worked: Varies to include mornings, days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
Hours Required for this position: Varies depending on qualifications; applicant has to teach different group fitness classes.
- Instructs safe, engaging land and aquatic fitness classes for individuals and groups.
- Ensures instruction aligns with industry standards and participant needs.
- Motivates participants to achieve personal wellness goals and return for future classes.
- Maintains a positive and inclusive class atmosphere for all ages and abilities.
- Interacts proactively with members, guests, and staff to support a welcoming environment.
- Remains current on fitness trends and adapts programming accordingly.
- Begins and ends classes on time; ensures proper use and storage of all equipment.
- Recommends new or replacement equipment as needed.
- Builds and maintains effective working relationships with team members and the public.
- Fosters teamwork and a positive work culture through daily interactions and attitude.
- Participates in team meetings and professional development activities.
Education
Required: Education or training resulting in certifications from nationally recognized fitness organizations in group or personal training, health, fitness, or wellness.
Experience
Required: At least one (1) year of experience instructing land or aquatic fitness classes.
Preferred: Two (2) or more years of experience teaching a variety of classes or managing fitness programs.
Certifications/Licenses
Required: Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
Preferred: Nationally accredited group exercise, personal training, or aquatic fitness certifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and practices of both land and aquatic fitness instruction.
- Ability to plan and lead both group and individual sessions.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate and inclusive exercise adaptations.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with participants and coworkers.
- Ability to manage classes safely and effectively.

Additional Requirements
Subject to a background check and Child Protective Services screening. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must meet the physical and environmental demands of the position.
