HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking an Electrician. The primary duties include: troubleshooting, testing, and repairing of existing installations; maintaining AC motor switch gear and control systems; installing electrical conduit and components in compliance with the latest edition of the NEC.
Overview
Electrical position involving troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and components, including medium voltage applications up to 4160V in a utility or manufacturing setting. Requires proficiency with NEC standards, motor control, testing equipment, and safe work practices.
Job Duties
- Troubleshoot, repair or replace medium voltage (e.g., 480V and 4160V) lighting systems.
- Evaluate motor windings using test equipment (e.g., Baker Motor Tester).
- Test dielectric properties of transformer/starter oils to ensure they are within specification.
- Test phasing and voltage on power feeders, starters, and substations using appropriate methods and tools.
- Test and troubleshoot UPS systems and repair or replace faulty parts.
- Test and troubleshoot electrical problems using test equipment and repair or replace damaged cables, insulators, or defective control boards during scheduled or unscheduled plant shutdowns.
- Test and perform preventive maintenance on 480V and 4160V motor starters; replace defective parts as needed (including bearing replacement).
- Block out and disconnect motors for maintenance; reconnect and unblock upon completion.
- Perform substation switching, pole switching, etc., per supervisor procedures.
- Run conduit and install supports per Engineering Drawings using NEC standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair or replace bulbs, ballasts, and fixtures; retrofit light fixtures to LED; work at heights up to 300 ft (clarify as needed).
- Operate test equipment and interpret results to troubleshoot equipment, verify connections, and provide requested data.
- Use conduit equipment to cut, ream, thread and bend conduit.
- Troubleshoot induction motor problems.
- Locate and retrieve correct basic electrical parts in the shop area.
- Follow safety procedures and participate in monthly safety walkthrough audits.
- Maintain electrical shop work area and tools in good condition.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, etc.; travel to Lovington site for electrical work as needed.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code and grounding requirements.
- Control circuit troubleshooting for various low voltages up to 480V.
- Infrared/thermography for electrical switchgear and power line preventive maintenance.
- Vibration analysis on rotating equipment may be required; laser alignment of rotating equipment.
- Read and create wire diagrams and schematics.
- May lead contract electricians and helpers.
Experience
Three or more years of on-the-job experience required.
A minimum of a High School degree or equivalent is required and New Mexico Journeyman's license.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associate's Degree preferred.

Good verbal/written communication, computer literate, strong mathematical and problem-solving skills, ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, rules, and regulations. Must have the ability to enter manways on towers, work in high places and around high temperatures. Perform work of consistent quality with good visual acuity (color, depth perception, and field of vision). Team player, self-starter, independent worker, good time management, analytical skills and priority setting ability.
