Overview

The City of New York, Department of Sanitation, Bureau of Information Technology (BIT) supports data processing and IT resources for DSNY. BIT develops and implements custom and packaged applications, maintains technical infrastructure, and collaborates with agency owner/client bureaus. We encourage innovation and a think-outside-of-the-box attitude when solving complex problems and implementing new solutions. BIT is seeking a Desktop Engineer to support and troubleshoot desktop-related issues in a fast-paced, large public sector environment. The Desktop Engineer will collaborate with Desktop Operations Managers and IT leadership to provide support for DSNY desktops and related equipment, manage incident identification and resolution, and assist in planning and designing the organization’s Desktop infrastructure to ensure high availability. Responsibilities

Thoroughly evaluate, validate, and create application packages, upgrades, and uninstalls using SCCM/MECM Test application remediations in the development environment before production Collaborate with system and application owners on creation and testing Review and assess risk for new applications Implement feature and security updates on Windows OS Design and maintain Windows OS images using MDT/SCCM/MECM Foster collaboration between server, network, and security teams to ensure efficient desktop operation Create, submit, and obtain approvals for application deployment change control procedures Document technical specifications for new and updated application packages Experience with creating and updating SQL queries Build and maintain scripts with PowerShell and PS APP Deploy Toolkit Microsoft App-V Application Sequencing Manage OSD task sequences and automate deployment Configure Windows OS deployment with MDT and ADK integration Configure and optimize GPO settings in Active Directory to manage Windows endpoints Prepare devices with Windows OS Kiosk configuration Create self-contained OSD images for off-network machines Configure, manage, and update Azure WVD images and hosts Update OS driver sets to meet security standards Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related hardware/software to deliver desktop service levels Provide reporting to senior management on application and security updates Experience

Software review and application packaging Application packaging software – PS APP Deploy Toolkit Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) Provide custom and canned reports using SCCM/MECM Creating deployment packages and applications in SCCM/MECM Validating and executing packages within SCCM/MECM Providing weekly activity reports Effective communication with customers, stakeholders, and technical staff Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in mainframe/mid-range/LAN or WAN environments and/or local desktop support An associate degree or 60 semester credits and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described above A four-year high school diploma or equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described above Education and/or experience equivalent to the above; includes substitution of undergraduate credits for experience as described Preferred Skills

NYS Driver’s License Strong technical knowledge of PC and desktop hardware (Dell, HP, Apple, and others) Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience Ability to diagnose network printer issues Extensive experience with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office Knowledge of SCCM/MECM and software package creation/maintenance Ability to manage, test, and deploy standard desktop and laptop images Experience managing group policies in Active Directory Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories Ability to read and understand technical manuals and OEM guides Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer-service orientation Ability to work with others in a team-oriented, public-sector environment and on-call/off-hours support Additional Information
