Overview
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking a Senior Litigation Paralegal for the Intellectual Property Practice group. The role reports to the Manager of Legal Practice Support and provides project assistance and case management to attorneys and trial teams. This position may reside in Washington, DC; Orange County, CA; San Francisco or Silicon Valley, CA; or Seattle, WA with a hybrid in-office/remote schedule. Key Responsibilities
Document and database maintenance; analyze data as required using computer-assisted review technologies
Assist with service of discovery requests and document productions
Assist with drafting, proofing, editing, and filing court briefings and supporting exhibits
Cite-checking and Bluebook formatting for briefs, memoranda, expert reports, etc.
Create Tables of Authorities and Tables of Contents for court briefings
Assist with invalidity and infringement contentions and associated productions
Assist with claim construction briefing and Markman hearing preparation
Calendar all events and deadlines with the Calendaring Department
Track and communicate case-related dates and information
Assist with deposition logistics and preparation
Witness preparation, creation of direct- and cross-examination binders
Assist with pretrial submissions including exhibit lists, deposition designations, and trial briefs
Assist with trial logistics, electronic courtroom setup, and demonstratives
Daily trial attendance, exhibit logging/tracking
Experience / Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
A minimum of 3–5 years of litigation paralegal experience
Experience with USPTO Patent Center and ability to obtain patents, prosecution histories, and prior art essential
Familiarity with patent terminology and citations essential
General knowledge and experience with e-filing procedures in US District Courts nationwide, especially Illinois, California, and Texas
Experience with cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and International Trade Commission (ITC), or Federal Circuit a plus
Management of trial preparation, logistics, and presentation is vital
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities of case management and trial preparation in a fast-paced, detail-oriented team environment
Familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required; understanding of litigation support systems including Case Notebook, Relativity, and Sanction is strongly desired
Proofreading and editing skills a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Paralegal certificate obtained through a paralegal studies program approved by the ABA or from an accredited college or university is preferred. In California, positions require compliance with state legislation (for example AB 1761) and may include one of the following: A certificate of completion from a paralegal program approved by the ABA
One full year of law-related work experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney who has been a member of the State Bar of California for at least the three preceding years and who has signed a written declaration that the candidate is qualified to perform paralegal tasks
A certificate of completion from a paralegal program at or a degree from a postsecondary institution requiring at least 24 semester units in law-related courses
