Responsibilities
Underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet LoB targets
Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions
Ownership of accounts / clients
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients
Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets
Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers
Proactively manage capacity
Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, understanding catastrophe modelling and interpretation of scenarios (for relevant LoBs)
Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception
Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to broker, or broker has issued documentation
File maintenance – establish and maintain risk files (electronic or paper) for each risk and transaction
Support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary)
Support market management initiatives
Positively represent Arch externally to the market
Drive involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process (e.g., MMC, AIRE, Claims, Operations)
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients and risk managers
Skills
Risk Assessment and Management: assess inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB
Pricing and Market Management: analyze performance against benchmarks and market dynamics to meet business and customer needs
Contract Drafting and Interpretation: design and implement robust wordings
Policy Management: understanding of policy administration lifecycle, information collection, issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellation
Communication: clear and effective verbal and written communication
Influencing: persuade and motivate others without executive authority
Analytical Skills: analyze data and draw conclusions
IT Skills: proficiency with Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
Experience
1–3 years of proven underwriting experience in profitable business within LoB; understanding of LoB products and portfolio
Established relationships with brokers at peer group level
Good understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitive landscape
Understanding of legal and regulatory framework
Education/Certification
Preferably a degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business, Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline
Progress towards professional insurance qualification (e.g., CPCU, ARM)
