Chronicle Books is looking for a

National Trade Sales Manager

to play a key role in connecting Chronicle Books and our Distribution Partners with independent bookstore, museum shop, and school & library market channels. Acting as both a

champion for the markets

and a

trusted voice back to our internal teams and partners , this role ensures critical insights flow both ways, developing sales strategies while sharing opportunities and trends across the company. This dynamic position works closely with Field Sales Managers and Commission Sales Groups to deliver day-to-day communications and operational support. The National Trade Sales Manager also serves as a primary sales manager for a select group of Key Accounts and manages the Trade Sales Coordinator. Responsibilities

Sales & Account Support Partner with Field Sales Managers and commission groups nationwide to exceed territory sales goals by account and product category. Act as the go-to resource for all things Chronicle Books for Field Sales Managers and commission groups. Share market insights, trends, and opportunities with internal stakeholders, helping shape strategies across Sales, Marketing, and Publicity. Sell frontlist and backlist titles to a select group of Key Trade Accounts, managing the full sales cycle. Strategy & Collaboration Collaborate with Marketing and Publicity teams to align promotions, author events, and sales campaigns for independent retailers, museums, and schools/libraries. Partner with Inventory, Operations, and Customer Service to ensure smooth processes, exceptional service, and strong account relationships. Provide input on seasonal forecasting, co-op marketing plans, and new product launches, ensuring the voice of the market channel is heard in company planning. Offer ongoing training and education for Field Sales Managers and commission reps on tools, systems, and sales best practices. Event & Conference Leadership Plan and lead engaging seasonal sales conferences, webinars, and pre-sales meetings to equip teams with insights and tools for success. Coordinate Chronicle Books’ presence at key industry events like Winter Institute, Children’s Institute, and regional trade shows. Support account participation in virtual events, webinars, and educational workshops. Success Metrics Meet and exceed territory sales goals. Strengthen sales rep and commission group performance through training, tools, and support. Successful execution of seasonal sales meetings and industry events & trade shows. Consistent positive feedback from reps, accounts, and internal partners on communication and collaboration. Hiring Salary Range

$68,000 - $78,200 annually. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan. Benefits

Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our San Francisco office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs. 5+ years of sales or sales support experience in publishing or a related industry. Strong understanding of independent bookstore, museum store, and/or school & library markets. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with Edelweiss; Salesforce experience a plus. Excellent organizational, analytical, and

exceptional communication skills

with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
