Public Works Superintendent (Roads Division)
The Napa County Department of Public Works seeks a Public Works Superintendent for the Roads Division. This position is at-will. The eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, limited-term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year. About the position: The Roads Division maintains approximately 450 miles of public roads, 79 bridges, and 50 major drainage structures in the unincorporated area. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and supervising construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, culverts, bridges, and waterways; leading staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors; and providing high-level support to County staff, boards, committees, and external agencies. The division also works on vegetation management, guardrails, traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of roads operations and project/people leadership. Position Requirements
Hourly Rate: $66.71 (Step 1) - $80.90 (Step 5) Annual Salary: $138,756.80 (Step 1) - $168,272.00 (Step 5) 3.5% COLA effective 07/01/2026 Education: Two years of college in civil engineering, public administration, business administration or related field; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible road or waterway construction or maintenance experience, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
